Living Walls The City Speaks 2010

Seriously,

I have been waiting for the new B.I.P. post talking all about the awesome Atlanta conference that opened last weekend. There is NOTHING more fitting for this blog's theme. Our good friend, Monica Campana (what, what?!), was half of the team that organized street artists from all over the world converging in a warehouse in Atlanta for a week. I'm not sure there is a worse idea in exsistence; a wonderful, stupid, amazing idea. The AC in the warehouse (Eyedrum) kept the temperature inside down to about 90 degrees. You cannot possibly imagine the fatal mix of sweat, paint fumes, and more beer than the weight of everyone there. The most accurate explaination I've heard is when I was going home Thursday night (after forcing strangers into manual labor for a structurally questionable door hanging -> should have taken physics) someone said, "you can't go home now, it's street art summer camp!" I'm saving up vacation time for next year.

One corner of the wall of bikes, don't worry they were ALL fixed gear.

The borrowed studio space for artists with one bathroom to share.

New tattoo

The amazing Ms. Campana

Since everyone else in the world has posted amazing pictures of the actual art and my photos of the walls aren't all together edited yet, I'll just link to some of the pages rather than poaching the pictures (like i did with the ones above).

Dudecake Alert!

Actually, not really, but I'm sure this lovely tune by Ménage à Twang, via Feminist Music Geek, will remind lots of you geekettes out there of someone or other.

Dudecake Double Feature!

I am posting the wonder above with apologies to Rad-Dudes.com to welcome you to what you know is on its way. First, I found this TV show on the web called "Dudes in Bed" and I don't understand why it isn't on prime time on Comedy Central instead of that awful man with the sad YouTube videos. There are a few episodes of "Dudes in Bed" on the web and I'm not sure if it is an abandoned project or not.

I felt this episode was most appropriate to our forum here:

Dudes In Bed - Bad Tattoos, Bad Decisions

dot comedy | MySpace Video

And, since this is sort of the holiday edition, I am also informing you of this amazing Lifetime drama, 12 Men of Christmas, which I would sincerely like to watch. It's on tomorrow at 9 p.m., but, with any luck, we will have sold the TV by then.

Here is the trailer:

100 special ladies

Tatoo artist Danielle Distefano created the 100 portraits in her first solo show 100 Ladies in just six months. Though the portraits are rendered in the traditional tattoo style, each one is so distinct that they are entirely liberated from their genre and granted unusual, expressive life. An extraordinary biography is implied by each mysterious face. Looking at all of them together, the effect is more cumulative and than repetitive.

Each piece builds on a larger picture that becomes more than the sum of its parts. It makes for an unexpectedly rewarding and inviting experience. I'm afraid the show closes at the end of August so you only have a little time left to get down to Young Blood Gallery and check it out. (Sorry for slacking and posting about it in the middle of the month.) If you like ladies, hurry up.

My friends are drunks

I've come to the realization that this blog is essentially a satanic neck tattoo that I keep on the Internet, in terms of finding gainful employment anyhow. It's worse really. I don't even have to show up for an interview. Prospective employers can simply Google my neck tattoo.

So I may as well have it all out now. Some friends of mine from college, Lindsey and Leo, have an ongoing multimedia project called Lush Life: www.livethelushlife.com. It deals with all the finer things in life that have alcohol in them. So, I decided it was pretty germane to my ongoing project over here, especially when Leo told me about the 12 second cocktails. This is their Tumblr page where you can watch little videos where they make uncomplicated cocktails. They have received some enviable viewer responses.

"This kid responded to our 12 second cocktails with his 12 second cocktail," says Leo.

"It's called 'too much rum' and it's rum in a pint glass," he says.

"That's a cocktail?" I ask over a shitty cell phone connection.

"In that you drink it and it has alcohol," he says.

I want these kids to do, like, a guest week on Bad Idea Potluck.

You may view instructions for too much rum HERE.

Its creator is officially the Bad Idea Icon of the June, even if, as Leo has suggested, the "rum" in the video is actually beer.
