Destroy All Pizza Monsters

You may have noticed we changed our look again. I think this one might stick as it comes to us from the amazing brain of Vim Crony. We're especially stoked on our new mascot, Pizza Monster:

If you can think of a better name for him than Pizza Monster, leave a comment and win a prize, or link love, or nothing. Up to you. We're going to celebrate the new style and with the catchy-yet-shady sounds of Night Manager. Chew on "Pizza Pasta" off their new EP of the same name. Then go see them. I saw them with Xray Eyeballs one time and it was rad. Album art is up top.

And speaking of pizza, where can I get this sweatshirt?

I may have to settle for this guy. Seagulls love pizza. You can totally get it from MisNopalesArt. They have a tote bag too.

Dammit. Now I'm hungry.

Crust Punks

You can stream Personal and the Pizza's new album Raw Pie (get it?) over on their profile page at Punknews.org.

You may have heard some of these songs before, but some of them you haven't. I'm pretty into the song "Pepperoni Eyes". (They're so romantic.) Overall Raw Pie sets a new and inspiring standard for humping The Stooges and The Ramones at the same time. I'm not insulting them. They know what they're doing. It's like they heard someone use the phrase "unabashed Ramones worship" and said "You call that unabashed Ramones worship? We'll show you what unabashed Ramones worship is" and proceeded to make good on the promise. Also, "Don't You Go in That Ground" is kinda moving. You can get the thing from 1-2-3-4 GO! Records. I'm probably just telling you so I have an excuse to post this picture:

Johnny's Pizza

While I'm on the pizza tip, I had a recent transcendent pizza experience. Twice! I had to go back a second time to be sure Johnny's Pizza was really that good because I was retarded starving the first time around. There was the possibility that I just hallucinated perfect New York style pizza out of a deep psychological and gastrointestinal need.

It was hard to believe I'd found such perfect pizza because of all the times I have eaten supposedly "New York Style" pizza in joints across this great nation of ours and been forced to come to grips with the fact that, outside of New York, very few people even seem to know what the words mean.

But the second time was just as good. It's actually better than your average place in New York City. And it only burned the roof of my mouth a little bit. Then "Mirror in the Bathroom" by the English Beat came on the radio. Was I dead? Was I in heaven? Nope, just in Decatur. Turns out, there's about a bujillion Johnny's Pizza locations throughout the south. Does that mean it's not a special, magical place? Can every location be this perfect? I'll just have to go to other Johnny's locations and find out.

To keep the pizza theme going I'm going to have to check out this Pizza Party band I keep hearing about.

Personal and the Pizzas

I really meant to try to take a picture during the Personal and the Pizzas show last night at the EARL but then I forgot. So I'm going to go with this picture of Iggy Pop eating pizza, which you could purchase in pin-form from the band. They are three greasy dudes with a pizza/chain whipping fetish. (You could also purchase a chain from them for $100.) Their show was kind of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon version of a garage band complete with goofy Fonzie accents.

Their best song is called "You=Beat Up." They claimed they couldn't play it and then they did just fine. Their second best song is called "I Can Read." I found that one very personally moving. Check it out on Myspace: www.myspace.com/personalandthepizzas

They are also nice and one even selflessly advised me that, if I had to choose between merch and beer, I should choose beer. I think he was the one who kind of looks like the crazy scientist from Repo Man. Hope they come back soon.
