If you like Merzbow, you'll love I-dosing

I read this Gizmodo article about I-dosing, apparently, these new digital drugs in MP3 form are destroying our youth. I'm listening to this "Gates of Hades" track on YouTube right now. There's a link in the article.
I don't think it's the "full audio" whatever that means, but it is interesting. Probably has a lot of frequencies in it that only teenage ears can hear. I am not high yet, but then I could only lie down with my eyes closed for so long. The article mentioned a droning sound, but it's actually much more annoying than the term "droning" would lead you to believe.

Shoot. It's over. I thought there was a long, quiet "white noise" part at the end, but I just took my headphones off and realized it was only the air conditioner.

I like a lot of harsh, weird things that one might call experimental but I don't really have the attention span to be too into ambient music or, really, electronica for that matter. So I don't think I'll be investigating this I-dosing further, but, apparently it is the newest threat to our youth.

I'm addicted to the Internet as it is.

So Vivian Girls has a new drummer. The link is to a Brooklyn Vegan post and, you're never going to believe this, but the comments thread is full of hate and fat jokes. I try not to read too many comments anywhere, but when I do get sucked in over at BV, I'm always impressed by how consistent the tone is. If I'm there, it's usually because I'm reading up on a female artist. But I should probably do it anytime I start wondering if maybe we've all moved beyond the point of needing publications like Bust to cover pop culture like white on rice. We haven't.

It is hot as woolly balls in my apartment. I'm still poor and I think I have summer seasonal affective disorder. As you might have guessed from the absence of a beer of the month for June, I am on vacation for at least the rest of the summer. Maybe I'll post in September about a way cool new blog that has a point. Maybe I'll return with a renewed sense of purpose. It's a hangnail.

In the meantime, deal with this crazy early sixties all-girl Indonesian garage band, Dara Puspita. Their sound is basically the sound of where my brain is at lately. (Long ago and far away?)

So, after discovering the genuinely useful Australian style blog Super Kawaii Mama, I Googled "Kawaii". It means cute in Japanese, but more importantly it is apparently an esoteric Internet formula unlocking a strange and colorful world of objects I totally need.

Girl Style Revolution

So, I don't know if I've mentioned this, but I'm really getting into fashion blogs, especially the ones where women doll themselves up and then post pictures of themselves. Part of it is pure escapism for me, and part of it is that some of them are really, really good and smart. They also provide me with relief from the images of women that I encounter in typical media, say, while I'm waiting for the train.

A lot of the early buzz I heard about the DIY fashion blogs was like, "Oh, god, those girls are so vain. Oh, god, this is so vacuous." But for me they present a reclaiming of style from the glossies. These are pictures of actual girls out there, all over the world, as opposed to pictures of models in Harper's Bazaar. Those latter pictures don't do much for me, being more or less entirely CGI at this point. Real girls going, "Check out my hotness (and my Etsy site)", on the other hand, might just turn me into a fashion junkie. I'm going to close my eyes now and pretend it's an all out revolution

Now, instead of stealing content from one of the aforementioned blogs I love, I think I will satisfy the imperative to include art in a post like this by showing you pictures of things I like on the Giant Peach.
